Sunday, January 28 - Old Pumphouse in Hidalgo

Again this Sunday,  Pastor Willie Sendejo has wanted to start an English service, so we went to church right here.

In the afternoon, we went for a walk to the old pumphouse, and had the best opportunity yet to see a kiskadee up close.

We picked up this card.  Have you seen it?  Very clever.  Also, very true!

Monday, January 29 - Bentsen-Rio Grande Valley State Park

We are off this week from work. Recall that when we work as Sowers, we work for three weeks then take a week off.  As well, we found out that the project we were going to next week had 3 couples working there, while there was to be only 1 couple here.  So we decided to stay here.  This gave us time to do some visiting.

We took off this morning for Bentsen-Rio Grande Bird Sanctuary, about 15 miles away.  Can you read the plaque that tell of it?  Our visit was very profitable in terms of the number of birds we saw close hand.  Here are some pictures:

Left to right: Altamira oriole, kiskadee, golden-fronted woodpecker

Green jays, green jay with Altamira oriole, oriole with cardinal

Green jay with red-winged blackbirds, screech owl and a javalina who was busy eating the seeds on the ground that the birds were spilling!

Squirrels loved the seed too!  That caterpillar is a Mexican fritillary, we were told.
